BeAble Capital invests €2 million in the environmental and health startup Captoplastic.

BeAble Capital, the leading Spanish science equity fund that generates science-based companies, i.e., companies using Deep Science technologies , is leading an investment round in Captoplastic , a highly disruptive startup in the environment and healthcare sector. The fund manager, along with family offices and industrial investors, has invested a total of €2,000,000, representing 55% (€1.1 million), in the fund manager, which is once again joined by other players to promote a unique model in the market.
Science equity - a pioneer in Europe - specializes in Deep Science technologies, i.e., highly disruptive, science-based technologies in strategic sectors to drive re-industrialization with a highly competitive component and 100% linked to environmental sustainability, responding to significant SDGs of the 2030 Agenda.
This transaction, through the BeAble Innvierte KETS Fund FCR fund of the fund manager BeAble Capital, together with several family offices and industrial investors, aims to boost Captoplastic's growth and accelerate the development and implementation of its highly innovative technology.
This highly disruptive startup, a leader in innovation in the capture of microplastics from water, develops advanced solutions for the detection and elimination of microplastics in wastewater , industrial water, and drinking water, addressing one of today's main environmental challenges: invisible microplastic pollution, improving water quality, with a focus on the reuse of resources to minimize waste.
Its technology has applications in multiple sectors, including wastewater treatment, drinking water treatment, water bottling, plastics, textile dyeing, recycling, textile fiber removal, and the personal care industry, among many others.
With this capital injection, the Deep Science startup will be able to expand its technological capabilities , which already have more than 10 patents in various countries, consolidate its presence in national and international markets, and continue leading the way in the control of microplastics in water.
In this regard, Almudena Trigo, CEO and founder of BeAble Capital, "we are proud of how Captoplastic has managed to grow and position itself as a leader, a company we created from its initial pre-seed phase as a spin-off of the Autonomous University of Madrid with brilliant scientists, and we continue to support it now in its most consolidated phase," adding, "aligned with a mission to contribute to competitive re-industrialization through new technologies that change the world from a sustainable perspective."
Re-industrialization, sustainability as the keyWith this technology, the company not only directly contributes to the conservation of oceans, seas, and marine resources, but also improves water quality , ensuring universal access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation, thereby promoting public health and well-being. It also has indirect impacts on protecting biodiversity and reducing environmental degradation by preventing the contamination of terrestrial ecosystems by water and sewage sludge.
In this regard, Ismael Olmedo, CEO of Captoplastic, stated, "We want to express our gratitude for the trust placed in our project and the support of strategic investors such as BeAble Capital and other investors, who contribute to sustainability and environmental protection."
In the unique landscape of the Deep Science sector, many companies developing advanced technologies with significant transformative potential face serious difficulties in obtaining funding and need time from investors to demonstrate results. Although they represent an opportunity for disruptive innovation, their complex nature and high capital requirements make it difficult to access the resources they need at key stages of their development.
In this sense, BeAble Capital, since its creation in 2016, has already founded or invested in more than 45 companies, impacting the creation of science-based industrial companies in Spain. In fact, Captoplastic tops The Next 35 Ranking, in its 2025 edition, redefining sustainable leadership among the main global startups poised to lead the future of a stock market index like the Ibex 35 (*).
On the other hand, while Spain ranks 9th in scientific production worldwide , it continues to lag behind in converting scientific knowledge into tangible innovation for a strong and competitive industry, ranking 28th in the Global Innovation Index.
We are at a crucial moment in which it is necessary to consider a new, sustainable industrial and economic model. According to BBVA Research, 90% of European environmental patents belong to Deep Science technologies. These disruptive technologies, whose development and scaling process is highly complex, very different from that of digital technologies, therefore the role of specialized investors is fundamental.
Only with deep science technologies can we solve challenges to our survival, such as greener energy and better water storage, waste recovery, new materials, and pollutant elimination.
