Royal Shipyard Museum holds conference

The Royal Shipyards Museum held the conference " Underwater Archaeology of Shipwrecks in the Lesser Antilles and the Dominican Republic" , given by Dr. Jean-Sébastien Guibert, a renowned underwater archaeologist of French origin.
The presentation sparked great interest among the audience , which included specialists, academics, students, and diplomatic guests. They actively participated in the question-and-answer session, demonstrating remarkable enthusiasm for learning more about the submerged cultural heritage found in the waters of the Caribbean islands.
Likewise, the importance of the island of Santo Domingo as a strategic point during the 16th and 17th centuries was mentioned, when it functioned as a key port on colonial trade routes due to its privileged geographical position as the "Primada de América".

In keeping with this historical legacy, the Royal Shipyard Museum preserves and exhibits one of the most important collections of underwater cultural heritage in the Caribbean, a testament to the maritime traffic and shipwrecks of the colonial era.
