Pope Leo XIV appointed Father Germán Humberto Barbosa Mora as auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of Bogotá

On June 20, Pope Leo XIV appointed Father Germán Humberto Barbosa Mora of the Diocese of Engativá as the new auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Bogotá.

The priest has more than two decades of ministry, solid theological training, and experience in the formation of new priests and in university education. Now, along with Monsignor Alejandro Díaz García and Monsignor Edwin Raúl Vanegas Cuervo, he will support Cardinal Luis José Rueda Aparicio in his mission to shepherd the Primate See of Colombia.
Barbosa was born in the Colombian capital on December 24, 1974. He entered the Major Seminary of Bogotá , where he completed his training and was ordained a priest on December 2, 2000. Since then, his life has been marked by service in various parishes and church leadership roles.
In 2003, with the creation of the Diocese of Engativá, he was incorporated into this new jurisdiction, where he has carried out much of his pastoral work.
The priest completed his undergraduate and doctoral studies in moral theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome , where he completed his thesis on the ethical dimension of social networks in interpersonal relationships.
He has taken an active role in the formation of priests and permanent deacons; he served as formator and delegate for vocational animation at the Major Seminary of Bogotá (2017-2019) and as director of the San Lorenzo Seminary House in Cota (2020-2023). He has also taught at the University of San Buenaventura, Unimonserrate, Unicervantes, and the University of Santo Tomás.

Since 2019, Father Germán Humberto Barbosa has served as episcopal vicar of the Vicariate of Our Lady of the Rosary and as a member of the Episcopal Council of the Diocese of Engativá, where he has contributed to pastoral decision-making. He is currently the pastor of La Divina Gracia, a church located in Suba (2023-2025).
Barbosa has held numerous pastoral assignments, including:
- Parish vicar of the parish “S. Juan Bautista de la Estrada” (2001).
- Parish priest of the parish “Our Lady of Copacabana” (2002 - 2005).
- Studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome (2005 - 2007).
- Parish priest of the parish “Our Lady of the Rosary”, Cota (2007 - 2011).
- Parish priest of the Cathedral of Engativá “San Juan Bautista de la Estrada” (2011-2013).
- Doctorate in Moral Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome (2013 - 2016).
- Trainer and Delegate of Vocational Animation at the Major Seminary of Bogotá (2017 - 2019).
- Episcopal Vicar of the Vicariate “Our Lady of the Rosary” and member of the Episcopal Council of the Diocese of Engativá (2019 - 2025).
- Director of the San Lorenzo Seminary House in Cota (2020 - 2023).
- Parish priest of the “Divine Grace” Parish in Suba (2023 - 2025).
- Finally, on June 20, 2025, Pope Leo XIV appointed him Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Bogotá, assigning him the titular see of Uzalensis.
