Father Diego Jaramillo , who is the president of the El Minuto de Dios Organization and who appears on Colombian television screens every night with a religious message, spoke out upon learning that Leo XIV will be the new Pope .
The priest said he wanted to share "the joy of knowing that we have a new Pope, the 267th Pope, successor to Saint Peter," and described it as a "blessing from the Lord" that the cardinals had chosen him to "succeed the unforgettable Francis."

"He is Pope Leo XIV, son of a Spanish mother and an American father, born on this continent, in the United States," he emphasized.
Jaramillo, 92, also praised the Pope's decades-long stay in Peru: "He knows all the needs of the Church."

In conclusion, the Colombian priest sent him a message: "May God bless him and may he count on all our solidarity, prayers, enthusiasm, and joy from all of America, and especially from all the works of El Minuto de Dios."
Father Diego Jaramillo's message after the death of Pope Francis Weeks ago, when Pope Francis died at the age of 88, Father Jaramillo had called on his show El Minuto de Dios for the next pontiff to follow "the path of his predecessors, keeping us in faith in Jesus."
In that same message, he had dedicated heartfelt words to Francis: "We thank the Lord for the gift he has given us in the person of the Pope and we implore him to open the gates of Heaven for him."

He said Francis had been "a man truly committed to the times in which he lived" and an example for other members of the Church.
