Children who are cruel to animals

Children who are cruel to animals

I was recently asked, “ Doctor , should I be worried if my son attacks every animal he encounters? Does that mean he’ll become a violent adult?” And my response was emphatic: “That’s definitely violence . It’s not normal for a child to be aggressive toward animals.”

Children generally play with non-dangerous animals and get along well. Some don't like to approach them because they're afraid, but most love animals. However, if they respond aggressively in that relationship, that indicates a problem .

Aggression is serious. It could also be a personality issue, so he needs to be taken to a good child therapist immediately. That behavior is not normal.

If parents or anyone else witnesses a child abusing or hitting an animal, they should immediately stop it, seek help, and assess the behavior. For example, my suggestion is that parents try to determine if the child does this type of thing with other children or people, starting at home.

It's important to know if the child is living in an environment where they see people hitting or abusing each other on a daily basis. Because, I repeat, this is not normal. If it happens, it's due to some triggering factor ... and it must be stopped immediately.

First, children cannot be allowed to abuse animals. If we do nothing, if we don't show disapproval of this violent act , we are giving them permission to be aggressive and mistreat other people and living beings.

This is a behavior that needs to be thoroughly analyzed. That child, in some way, is having serious problems with self-control . In other words, it needs to be taken into account and immediately put in therapy. This includes assessing whether this behavior is also reflected in other settings and in other ways.

So please, if this is happening in your area today, don't delay in taking your child to a good child therapist .
