The new Regional Hospital in Tlajomulco will benefit 380,000 people from seven states.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo inaugurated the first phase of the Tlajomulco de Zúñiga Regional Hospital in Jalisco on Friday, which will be operated by the Institute of Social Security and Services for State Workers (ISSSTE). The center will begin operating next Monday and will benefit 380,000 beneficiaries in Jalisco , Aguascalientes , Colima, Michoacán , Nayarit , San Luis Potosí, and Zacatecas .
During her speech, Sheinbaum Pardo explained that the opening is the first stage and that the equipment and the incorporation of medical specialties will be gradually completed. "On Monday, the first stage of this Specialty Hospital opens, and now, honor where honor is due: President Andrés Manuel López Obrador started it, and it's up to us to finish it," she stated.
The project represents a total investment of nearly three billion pesos and will have 250 census-covered beds , 262 non- census-covered beds , 63 consulting rooms, 36 specialties, and advanced technology in nuclear medicine. The director general of ISSSTE, Martí Batres Guadarrama, explained that the hospital is part of a national health infrastructure plan that includes the opening of 51 public hospitals of ISSSTE, the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), and IMSS Bienestar by 2027.
Batres Guadarrama added that ISSSTE is undergoing a strengthening phase with the "La Clínica es Nuestra" program, the acquisition of ambulances, the renovation of operating rooms, and the forgiveness or reduction of debts with FOVISSSTE.
At the ceremony, the Undersecretary of Health Policies and Population Well-being, Ramiro López Elizalde, emphasized that the construction of the new hospital is a long-awaited achievement for the staff who served at the former Valentín Gómez Farías Hospital. “This new hospital doesn't compete with the Valentín Gómez Farías; it complements it and honors it. It's a new beginning with the same vocation: to serve with dignity, dedication, and humanity,” he said.
For his part, the governor of Jalisco, Pablo Lemus Navarro, thanked the President of Mexico for her support of the state and announced measures to strengthen the hospital's operations. These include the rehabilitation of surrounding roads with an investment of 35 million pesos, the expansion of routes connecting to public transportation line 4, and the provision of land for housing for healthcare workers.
Sheinbaum Pardo reiterated that healthcare is a right, not a privilege, and that her administration will promote the expansion and modernization of medical infrastructure throughout the country. "We want access to healthcare to be universal, free, and of high quality, and that no worker in the sector lacks the necessary conditions to provide decent care," she stated.
The new Tlajomulco de Zúñiga Regional Hospital is poised to become one of the most modern medical centers in the western part of the country. Its implementation aims to reduce overcrowding at other hospitals in the region and guarantee specialized care to thousands of patients in seven states, strengthening the public health network for the benefit of the population.

Attention! The hospital will benefit people not only from Jalisco, but also from six neighboring states: Aguascalientes, Colima, Michoacán, Nayarit, San Luis Potosí, and Zacatecas. This expands regional medical coverage and improves access to specialized services.
Specialties. It will have 36 medical specialties, allowing it to provide care in diverse areas such as internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, gynecology, and nuclear medicine. This will facilitate the diagnosis and treatment of complex diseases without the need to travel to other states.
Capacity. With 250 census beds and 262 non-census beds, the hospital has the capacity to serve a large number of inpatients and outpatients. This will help reduce overcrowding at other hospitals in the region and improve the quality of care.

In response to the need to improve connectivity with the new Tlajomulco de Zúñiga Regional Hospital, Jalisco Governor Pablo Lemus Navarro announced that his administration will add feeder routes to bring commuters from Line 4 of the Light Rail to the hospital.
During the hospital's inauguration, Lemus explained that the nearest Line 4 station will be Tlajomulco Centro, located approximately three kilometers from the building. Therefore, he indicated that they will work with the Ministry of Transportation to establish routes that allow for faster and safer access for patients, family members, and medical staff.
The hospital is located on Cerro del Patomo Street, in the Rinconadas del Sol neighborhood. Currently, the main public transportation option is the LM-C01 route, which goes to the intersection of Prolongación Mariano Escobedo and Cerro del Patomo. From there, visitors must walk approximately five blocks to reach the entrance.
Another alternative is route LM-V2, which runs along the Southern Metropolitan Circuit and drops off users at the intersection of Valle de los Sauces and Valle de los Fresnos, a similar distance from the main access point.
Lemus acknowledged that current transportation is insufficient and that, for now, only motorcycle taxis reach the hospital's doors, although these services are irregular and are not part of the official network.
The president indicated that the feeder routes will not only benefit those seeking medical care, but will also facilitate the mobility of workers and visitors. He also assured that the new connections will be ready before Line 4 begins full operations this year.
