The CTIC is designated by Esmo as a Comprehensive Center for Cancer Care

The Luis Carlos Sarmiento Angulo Cancer Treatment and Research Center (CTIC) was officially recognized by the European Society for Medical Oncology (Esmo) as a Comprehensive Cancer Care Center, a distinction that places it among the world's leading institutions in cancer care, scientific research, and specialized medical training.
The announcement, made in October 2025, represents a milestone for Colombian and Latin American medicine, as the CTIC joins an international network of more than 200 centers in over 50 countries, all certified by Esmo for meeting the highest international quality standards in comprehensive cancer care.

Esmo, headquartered in Switzerland, is the leading European organization and one of the most influential globally in the field of medical oncology. Its Esmo Designated Centers program certifies institutions that demonstrate excellence in multidisciplinary care, clinical and translational research development, continuing medical education, and an ethical commitment to improving the care of cancer patients.
The designation obtained by the CTIC is valid for three years and is renewable after rigorous verification of compliance with international standards. In the evaluation process, Esmo analyzes criteria ranging from medical infrastructure and interdisciplinary coordination of treatment to the institution's active participation in research projects and specialized academic programs.

For the CTIC, this recognition reaffirms its commitment to scientific excellence and person-centered care, a model that combines the most advanced medical technology with a philosophy of care based on dignity, empathy, and hope. Its value proposition is based on a comprehensive approach that seeks not only to treat the disease but also to support the patient and their family throughout the entire care process.
The CTIC model integrates diagnosis, treatment, research, and medical training into a single space, a combination that fosters the advancement of scientific knowledge and strengthens cancer care in Colombia and Latin America. Since its inception, the center has worked to consolidate a clinical innovation ecosystem that promotes precision medicine, fosters translational research, and contributes to improving the health outcomes of cancer patients.
While CTIC is not the first center to receive this recognition, being recognized by Esmo implies belonging to an international scientific community that promotes continuous improvement and the exchange of best practices among the world's leading experts in oncology.
In fact, this designation opens up new opportunities for scientific collaboration, participation in multicenter studies and global clinical research networks, as well as the possibility of strengthening the training of oncology professionals under international standards.
