Rosana Torres, National Cultural Journalism Award

Rosana Torres, a specialist for decades in performing arts and film coverage at EL PAÍS, received the National Award for Cultural Journalism today, Monday. The award, presented annually by the Ministry of Culture, "aims to recognize the journalistic career in the field of culture developed by a Spanish individual whose activity is dedicated to cultural reporting, regardless of the language or languages ​​of the Spanish State used in their work," according to its terms and conditions. It comes with a prize of 30,000 euros.

Torres (Catarroja, 71) is one of the most famous and renowned cultural journalists in the country . She began her career during the Transition, first at the magazine La Guía del Ocio, writing about children's and young adult literature and theater. She has worked at EL PAÍS since 1978, covering all types of cultural news, especially theater, a field in which she is considered one of the foremost experts. In 1980, she received the National Literature Award for her work as a critic.

The jury selected her "for the excellence of her career as an independent and critical cultural journalist and for possessing a proverbial flair for spotting the best scoops," according to a statement issued by the Culture Department. The same document adds that, according to the jury, "with a casual and ironic language and an approach to reporting that is always dignified, humane, and profound, Rosana Torres has managed to bring cultural content , especially the performing arts, to a wide audience without losing rigor or quality. Her honesty, strong social commitment, and the professional responsibility with which she approaches each project make Torres a benchmark for several generations of professionals."
