Mario Casas stars in a romantic drama where love crosses time

Elia Barceló's literature is very changeable. Some of her novels immerse the reader in the darkest night. Others enlighten him with love stories. But Barceló's books always have one thing in common: they are very entertaining and can be read in one sitting.
Now Olga Osorio has adapted one of Barceló's novels for the big screen. One of his brilliant stories, The Goldsmith's Secret , tells of the unquenchable love between Juan Pablo and Celia, a passion that transcends time.
The film was shot in two towns in La Rioja Alavesa, one of them being Elciego, a real delight. The film begins in Barcelona in 1999, where Juan Pablo works as a goldsmith, although he is going to close his business to move to New York. The man remembers that in his youth he spent a summer in his grandparents' village and there he fell madly in love with an older woman, Celia.

Juan Pablo felt that Celia had already met him before and that she was his soul mate, but the relationship broke down, the boy returned to Barcelona and never heard from her again. Now, before crossing the pond, he is determined to find her to try to fix things. So he returns to the town before flying to the United States.
When he arrives at the place he notices something strange... Juan Pablo left Barcelona in 1999, but it seems that the place he has arrived at has remained stuck in 1953. This jump in time is shown by Osorio with impeccable 1950s costume and makeup.

The cast is another of the film's strengths. Mario Casas plays Juan Pablo as an adult and Enzo Oliver plays the same character in his youth. Both actors worked together on the composition of the character. And the same goes for the girls, with the Celias . Michelle Jenner is the older Celia, in love with the young Juan Pablo, and Zoe Bonafonte is a very young Celia who is head over heels for the adult Juan Pablo.

In addition, The Goldsmith's Secret has some wonderful landscapes. The film was shot in two small towns in La Rioja Alavesa. One of them is Elciego, near Logroño. Its streets and parks and the surrounding vineyards are a delight that invite the viewer to want to take a stroll around the place as soon as they leave the cinema.
