Lennon, McCartney, and Ringo's sons record a song together for the first time.

After going through the bitter experience of being fired (twice) by The Who , Zak Strakey, Ringo Starr's son, wanted to treat himself to a small, grand measure of solace. The drummer has reactivated his band , Mantra of the Cosmos, preparing a new album in which, for the first time, the sons of three Beatles have reunited to record a song.
Sean Lennon and James McCartney participate in 'Rip Off' , a song that, Starkey warns, so as not to create false expectations, "has no Beatles inspiration." As the musician has stated, the song in question is "Mantra of the Cosmos with them, it's Sean of the Cosmos and James of the Cosmos, but it's still my band."
Mantra of the Cosmos is a supergroup formed by Starkey with Happy Mondays members Shaun Ryder and Bez, as well as Ride's Andy Bell. Asked why he didn't include George Harrison's son Dhani to fully represent the second generation of The Beatles, Starkey states: "Because it's not a tribute to The Beatles."
However, the preview Starkey posted on his Instagram profile (the track is not yet available on all streaming platforms) does make visual references to the Beatles, using several images of his parents in the shared music video. In 2012, James McCartney told the BBC that the idea of creating a supergroup between himself, Sean, Dhani, and Zak had been "played around," but since then, a reunion of the Fab Four offspring has never come close to materializing. Thus, this new collaboration marks the first time three of the Beatles ' children have collaborated on an original piece of music, the release date of which will be announced soon.
Sean Lennon and James McCartney have collaborated before, writing, recording, and releasing the single 'Primrose Hill' together in April of last year. At the time, Paul McCartney shared the premiere of the single on his social media, sending "so much love" to Sean Ono Lennon. "Today I am so excited to share my latest song co-written with my good friend Sean Ono Lennon," James wrote on Instagram. "With the release of this song, it feels like we're truly coming full circle, and I'm so excited to continue sharing music with you all. Before I release a song, I usually play it for my loved ones, which obviously includes my dad!" McCartney Jr. revealed on social media.
James, Paul's only son, became interested in music from a young age, teaching himself to play guitar and piano. "It's hard to keep up with the Beatles," he told The Irish Mirror in 2013. "When Wings toured, they got beaten up. Even Dad struggled to keep up with the Beatles. I started playing under an alias."
Sean, the only son of John and Yoko Ono, has embarked on a solo musical career and collaborated with Lana Del Rey, among other artists. In 1998, he spoke to Rolling Stone about his upbringing as the son of the late Beatle. “When you’ve never experienced anything else, it’s not weird, it’s just your life,” he said at the time. “I never knew doing interviews and press was weird. You just take it as it comes. You don’t choose your name, you don’t choose your parents. You’re thrown into this space, and life hits you.”
'Rip Off' isn't the only track Starkey has collaborated on lately. Last week, he shared a song called 'Domino Bones (Gets Dangerous)', which features Oasis' Noel Gallagher , a band of which Starkey himself was a touring member from 2004 to 2008. "Noel heard a track I sent him and said, 'It's all drums, what am I supposed to play? What am I supposed to play?' I said, 'Give me a week.' And I wrote the music for it and made the piano look nice. I used at least half of one of Noel's choruses," the drummer explained to Rolling Stone.
This reunion of the Beatles' children follows the announcement that four biopics about the band will be released in 2027. Directed by Sam Mendes, the films will star Barry Keoghan, Joseph Quinn, Paul Mescal, and Harris Dickinson in the roles of Ringo Starr, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, and John Lennon, respectively. Each film will tell the story of the Liverpool band from the perspective of one of its members.
