Action movies have become one of the biggest draws on Prime Video, a platform that adds new releases each month capable of engaging millions of viewers around the world. Explosions, chases, and charismatic heroes and villains are part of a constantly growing catalog that has established Amazon as a serious competitor in streaming entertainment.
It's no coincidence that titles starring Hollywood stars are among the most watched, confirming that the genre remains a favorite with audiences. And, in this context, a new release arrives that promises not to go unnoticed: The Enforcer, the film starring Antonio Banderas , which lands on Prime Video to reaffirm why the Malaga-born actor remains one of the great figures of international action cinema.

The story takes place in Miami, a city that is portrayed here as a dark and dangerous setting. Banderas plays Cuda, a mafia hitman who begins to tire of the life he's led for years. His world is shaken when he meets Billie (Zolee Griggs), a young woman trapped in a sex trafficking ring run by her own boss, Estelle (Kate Bosworth). Determined to protect her, the protagonist will have to confront the criminal world he's always served, even if it means risking everything.
One of the most striking aspects of The Protector is that it marks Richard Hughes's directorial debut. Coming from the world of music videos and advertising, Hughes opted for a raw and contemporary story that combines classic action film elements with very contemporary issues, such as cybersex and human trafficking. His direct, straightforward approach maintains a steady pace throughout the 90-minute film.
The script is written by W. Peter Iliff, best known for writing Point Break, which is evident in the way he constructs characters caught in moral dilemmas and dangerous environments. The combination of a debuting director and a veteran screenwriter results in an intense film, designed to grip from the first minute.

Although the weight of the plot falls on Antonio Banderas, the rest of the cast reinforces the film's dark tone. Kate Bosworth embodies the villain Estelle with calculated coldness, while Mojean Aria and Alexis Ren bring new nuances to the Cuda universe. Meanwhile, Zolee Griggs shines as the young woman who awakens the protagonist's protective instinct and gives the film the human depth it needs.
Beyond the fights and shootouts, The Protector offers a look at the new landscapes of organized crime. The film reflects how mafias have shifted part of their business to the internet, introducing the viewer to a world of digital exploitation that is as real as it is disturbing. This connection to current events makes the film more than just entertainment.
After its release in September 2022 in the United States and in December of the same year in Spain, The Protector didn't have a great run in theaters, something that has now been reversed thanks to its arrival on Prime Video.
