Harvest 2025: the election of the Queen of the Hills celebrates 10 years and its sovereign invites us to "live a dream"

Thinking about the Vendimia is thinking about the harvest, the party, the celebration and those queens who will carry the attributes full of tradition and culture of Mendoza for a year. But it is also thinking about the queens who are about to say goodbye, who are days away from their mandate fulfilled. And this is the case of Lorenza Delinda Gómez , the Queen of the Vendimia de los Cerros 2024 , and who lives the countdown of her mandate with a mixture of emotions and mixed feelings .

Over the years and with the Grape Harvest Festivals , the election of the Queen of the Hills has taken on greater importance. It is a parallel ceremony , like a "blue queen election" that takes place on the Cerro de la Gloria , among those who will enjoy the emblematic party that same day from those more "popular" locations , so to speak, since no ticket is needed to see the National Festival from that site.

And last year "Loli" Gómez was elected queen. Since she was a child, she has recognized herself as a faithful fan of the Vendimia .

“ I played with my sisters and cousins ​​at being queen ,” she recalls. However, for various reasons in life, she never dared to apply.

Until, finally, desire won out. It was when she learned about the Vendimia de los Cerros - she confesses that she watched Victoria Herrera (historic promoter of this election) on television and thought that maybe one day it would be her turn. And after five years of postponing it, she experienced how the moment arrived .

“I was able to achieve it when I was 58 ,” he says.

These days, Loli is going through days of “mixed emotions” . On the one hand, the joy of having fulfilled the commitment she made from the first meeting with Victoria, the creator and coordinator of the Vendimia de los Cerros . From that moment on, her main objective was to make this festival even more known. And the outgoing queen feels that she achieved it.

After assuming her role as royal sovereign of the hills , social media played an important role.

“In fact, social media can be very good for some things, but very bad for others, because many grievances circulated there that were the result of ignorance about Vendimia de los Cerros ,” he points out. And he invites people to learn about it and spread the word, because it is a true celebration of the people .

Another of the feelings that this Tunuyan woman experiences is the nostalgic memory of what she experienced, but also the gratitude for being recognized.

“I was lucky that the Mayor of Tunuyán, Emir Andraos , received me with a royal breakfast and with all the honors. He took notice, and from that moment on he always included me in the protocol agenda ,” he highlights.

When she took office, Lorenza imagined that being queen would consist of just wearing a crown . But over time, she discovered that the role went much further.

“I thought I would just put on the crown and that was it ,” she confesses with a laugh. However, her work took her to children's soup kitchens, schools, nursing homes and to share talks with other national queens . Each of these experiences was, she says, “pure gratification .”

She also highlights as one of the most important milestones of the year the declaration of the Grape Harvest of the Hills as a popular event of interest by the Chamber of Deputies . A recognition that, according to her, reaffirms the importance of this celebration.

As a spoiler, the Queen of the Hills 2024 comments that, upon completing ten years of this celebration, the organization is already finalizing the preparations for the celebration called "Story of my hill" , which is under the direction of Vicente Mamaní and script by Adrián Carreño .

It will be held on the same day as the Central Act, March 8 , in the hills surrounding the Frank Romero Day Theater. In addition, the queen adds -enthusiastically- that they will present a float on the Vía Blanca and the Carousel , a structure that will feature the presence of the queens who have completed their term and who will carry bands with the year they were elected.

Loli, of course, will be accompanied by her vice queen, Verónica Zárate (Maipú) , with whom she created a friendship that will continue over time.

In closing, Lorenza does not mince words: “I will keep the band as the most beautiful thing I could have achieved in this thing of pursuing a dream . That women dare to take the plunge, achieve it and live it .”
