Although the accident occurred on July 9, 2022, it was only recently that his conviction became known, which dictated that he must also pay a fine of 47 minimum wages.
The economic and emotional impacts Before the sentence was announced, Freddy Burbano told the 'La Red' programme in September 2024 that after the incident he took charge of "facing up to the crime, speaking to the family (of the victim) and Karen's mother."
Burbano explained that the events had caused him economic and emotional damage: " We were all affected and we still are . (...) It's not just me, my family too, because they have suffered a lot with this issue."
As for his musical career, the artist said that all contracts and concerts he had planned for the future had been cancelled. In fact, he said that there were still people who thought he was in jail.
"That really broke the economic issue in my group. I had to go out and find a way to make ends meet, it's like remembering old times and doing things I hadn't done for a long time," he told the program.

It is a time to think and meditate, to reflect on many aspects
He also stated that he had more than ten confirmed concerts planned, but, due to the penalty he will now begin to face, he had to call to cancel them: "We have had to return money, money that had already been deposited. And now with this ruling, Freddy Burbano's career is in decline."
The singer also said that he will start making and recording music from the comfort of his home.

"People who may not know how things are. Things are very different because I am not a murderer," said the singer about the comparisons of his case with that of the influencer Epa Colombia, who was convicted.
I hope one day I can give them a concert so they can realize who Freddy Burbano is. A person who seeks to harm no one, on the contrary
Finally, he stressed that he will remain at home and will be willing to attend to Colombian justice: " I am at home facing this situation with great responsibility."

In the early hours of July 9, 2022, the accident and death of Karen occurred in the town of Puente Aranda (Bogotá). The artist was driving under the influence of alcohol, so he was arrested at that time.
Two people were also injured: José Velásquez, 21, who was with Karen, and the taxi driver, who suffered trauma to different parts of his body.
Given the seriousness of the events, Burbano stressed in the interview: "I accept that I was wrong, but I think it is not 100% my responsibility; there are several issues that people do not know about."
The singer said that "the taxi driver was going at a certain speed and, at that time, everyone is going 70, 60, 80 kilometers and I was not going over that speed."
The artist said that the events in which he was involved left him with the experience that "we have to take life more calmly. Without that rush of thinking that we are doing well and that 'we are going to take on the world'."
Burbano said that exceeding the limits "is not good." Therefore, as for drinking alcohol again, he said he would drink again, "but with much more responsibility and without driving."
