With their stark beauty, moors offer ideal settings for crime stories, detective stories, and thrillers. Who could ever forget Dartmoor, in whose enchanted landscape Arthur Conan Doyle set his Sherlock Holmes novel "The Hound of the Baskervilles"? The discovery of a man's corpse in May 1950 in a moorland in Jutland, Denmark, also seemed to point to a murder case: The body, lying two and a half meters deep in Bjældskovdalen, was in such good condition that the man could be mistaken for the victim of a crime. The four peat diggers who found him immediately notified the police in the nearby town of Silkeborg.
