Europe's tourist hotspots are bursting at the seams this summer. Experts have compiled a list of the most crowded destinations. The top three spots are surprising.

Experts have now created an index for mass tourism: According to the analysis by “Evaneos” and “Roland Berger,” 36 of 77 travel destinations examined are overcrowded in summer, as “reisereporter” reports.

These 6 holiday destinations should be avoided during the summer months if you don't want to be part of mass tourism:

  1. Croatia
  2. Montenegro
  3. Bulgaria
  4. Greece
  5. Italy
  6. France

The affected holiday destinations are already working on measures to curb mass tourism. For example, Croatia plans to limit the number of cruise ships, and Greece is also planning restrictive measures for its overcrowded islands like Mykonos to ensure quality of life. Italy, with Venice as an example, is trying to regulate visitor flows through entrance fees.

Alternatively, these 4 destinations are suggested:

  1. Finland
  2. Greek mainland
  3. Baltic Sea
  4. Madagascar

According to the real estate agents, affordable housing is increasingly becoming a luxury, which threatens the quality of life of the islanders.

On the beaches of Gran Canaria, violations such as smoking, loud music, and beachcombing are punishable by fines of up to 500 euros. In Mallorca, it is no longer permitted to reserve sunbeds with towels. In addition, there are new bans on party tourists on Mallorca and Ibiza.
