Tom Cruise: An honorary Oscar goes to the Hollywood star

Tom Cruise has been nominated for an Oscar four times, but he never won the award. That's finally about to change.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which administers the Oscars, has announced that after more than 40 years in the film business, Tom Cruise (62) will finally be honored with a Golden Boy. The Hollywood actor is one of several people set to receive an honorary Oscar at the end of the year.
After four nominations, Tom Cruise wins the Oscar"Mission: Impossible" star Cruise, who first appeared in productions in the early 1980s, has been nominated for four Academy Awards during his long career – for Best Actor for "Born on the Fourth of July" and "Jerry Maguire," for Best Supporting Actor for "Magnolia," and for Best Picture for "Top Gun: Maverick." However, he has yet to win an Oscar.
In addition to Cruise's Academy Honorary Award, one honorary Oscar each will go to actress, choreographer, and director Debbie Allen (75) and production designer Wynn Thomas. Country legend Dolly Parton (79) will be honored with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.
The Academy's Honorary Award recognizes exceptional lifetime achievement in film, distinguished contributions to the art of film, or outstanding service to the Academy. The Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award recognizes individuals in the industry who have made outstanding contributions to humanitarian causes. The Golden Boys will be presented at the 16th Governors Awards, which will take place on November 16.
"This year's Governors Awards honor four legendary individuals whose extraordinary careers and dedication to our filmmaking community have left a lasting impression," Academy President Janet Yang (68) said in a statement. Cruise was praised, among other things, for his "incredible dedication" that has "inspired us all." Parton, described as an "international icon," has a "tireless commitment to philanthropy."
