Peace in the room, movement in the streets

Anyone who spends several days on a business trip with a trusted colleague can also learn something about their own needs for their next personal trip. On the journey to Łódź with Ralf, my colleague from the photo department of SZ-Magazin , I enjoy mutual silence as the landscape passes by, pierogi with freshly grilled bacon in the Polish EC onboard bistro, a beer without comment in the afternoon, and a cigarette on the platform. We naturally book single rooms at the "Hotel Tobaco." Many experienced couples sleep more restfully in separate rooms, but on vacation, you lie together again, torturing each other to sleep; we can certainly avoid that in Łódź.
The hotel was once a spinning mill, later a cigarette factory. The rooms are pleasantly simple and quiet. From there, we take free rental bikes around Piotrkowska shopping street to the exhibitions we've come to see. All around us, we see antique shops, casual cafes, and teenagers drinking beer through straws. Around 650,000 people live in Łódź, a wonderful patchwork of brand-new buildings and dilapidated buildings.
On our second evening in the city, instead of a late lecture, we head to an early party, dance the night away, and then each go to bed with our own bag of chips. The perfect template for a perfect evening on my next private trip.
Hotel Tobaco, ul. Kopernika 64, 90-553 Łódź, Poland, Tel. 0048/42/207 07 07, single rooms from about 50 euros/night, double rooms from about 58 euros/night.
