Makeup mistakes for fair skin: The 2 most serious makeup mistakes for fair skin

Applying makeup to light skin is subject to entirely different rules, and failure to follow these rules will detract from the harmony of your complexion. Avoid these two makeup mistakes if you're always looking for your color on the far left shelf.
Who hasn't experienced this? The concealer is too yellow, the bronzer too dark, and the blush too pink. Learn now which two makeup mistakes you're likely making with (very) fair skin and how to avoid them in the future.
2 makeup mistakes for fair skin that we should avoid from now onThe reason for almost all makeup mistakes with fair skin is the wrong undertones : The lighter the skin tone, the greater the likelihood that your undertone is cool rather than warm or olive. What does this mean? Makeup products with warm undertones – orange, yellow, red, and olive – are taboo ! These colors don't naturally occur in the complexion of very fair skin types and therefore look unnatural. You can immediately eliminate any products that have a "w" for warm or a "y" for yellow after the color number, or that are called "golden," "beige," or "honey." Which colors should you choose instead? We'll tell you.
The right color choice for almost everyone with fair skin would be cool shades ("c"), often labeled "rose," "pink," or "porcelain." But still, many concealer colors are still too warm! As you can see in the picture above, only one color actually matches Juliana Shiel's skin tone: the second one from the right. And you know what that is? Not a concealer, but a corrector !
Instead of using a concealer whose undertone, despite its label, is probably too warm for you, simply opt for a pink corrector like the Nyx Pro Fix Stick—important— in pink . This stick is actually designed to balance bluish discoloration with its complementary pink undertone. While it balances out bluish tones on darker skin, it also functions perfectly as a concealer on lighter skin: The pink undertone allows the corrector to blend seamlessly into the skin. Simply apply it under the eyes where you have the most intense discoloration and then dab it in with your ring finger.

If you look at the makeup looks of Hollywood stars like Elle Fanning, Saoirse Ronan, or Nicola Coughlan, you'll look in vain for bronzer on the cheeks or forehead. If you still don't want to miss out on that sun-kissed look , it's best to use the color palette that's already naturally present on the face. Even bronzers for fair skin usually have a warm or reddish undertone, which is much more noticeable on a lighter complexion—the comparison to stains on a white T-shirt isn't even that far-fetched. We definitely need an even cooler product—and if that's not available, we can mix it ourselves like this.

All you need for the sun-kissed look for fair skin are:
- a cool contouring product
- a rosy blush that resembles your lip color (keyword: face color palette!)
- Brush or sponge
It's best to use creamy or liquid products , as they blend best. Here are some editorial recommendations for contour products (even if they call themselves "bronzers") with a cool undertone for (very) fair skin:
Of course, you can use the contour product as usual in the first step, applying it to your cheekbones, nose, and forehead. But cool-toned cream products are a real game-changer for light skin , allowing you to achieve the perfect tanning effect with blush. How? By mixing the two! Light skin types in particular often don't want the blush to look too pink, which would otherwise emphasize the skin's natural redness. To tone down the rosy color, the contour color is perfect. When mixed together, the two create a very specific tone that makes light skin look sun-tanned.
These blush colors have a rosy/mauve undertone and are particularly suitable for light skin:
- Maxfactor Miracle Pure Cream Blush in "vintage peony"
- Huda Beauty Blush Filter in "strawberry cream"
- eleven Luminous Putty Blush "bermuda"
- Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush in "encourage"
- Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Cheek Tint in "delicate mauve"
Either apply the contour product and blush to your face and blend them together, or apply both to the back of your hand , mix them together, and then apply them to your cheeks, forehead, bridge of your nose, and eyelids. But don't forget to use a light hand and a small amount of product! Everything will immediately become more noticeable on lighter skin. So work slowly and work the products thoroughly into the brush to avoid smudges.
