Celine: 3 things you should know about Michael Rider's debut collection

The new Celine: This is creative director Michael Rider's vision for Celine Spring/Summer 2026.
Creative Director Michael Rider celebrated his debut at Celine last night – following in the footsteps of Hedi Slimane. But this isn't entirely new territory for him: The American designer was already part of the Celine team under Phoebe Philo . Other formative stages in his career include Balenciaga under Nicolas Ghesquière and his role at Polo Ralph Lauren, where he most recently oversaw the women's line. "Returning to Celine and to Paris – back to 16 Rue Vivienne, to a changed world – was incredibly emotional for me. And a great joy," Rider said after the show.

The show invitation for Celine's spring/summer collection.
Last night's show took place at 16 Rue Vivienne—a return to basics. It's home to the brand's headquarters, a private mansion originally built in 1648. In the main atrium, guests sat beneath an oversized Celine scarf that crowned the runway. Even the invitation was handed out wrapped in a silk scarf .

On the runway, the Spring 2026 collection presented a masterclass in fine tailoring – with looks that meet the everyday needs of their wearers. "I've always loved the idea of designing clothes that live on, that become part of the wearer's life – that capture a moment in time and at the same time speak of gestures, occasions, and changes, of past, present, and future, of memories, utility, and imagination, of real life," says the designer.
Relaxed blazers, wide tuxedo trousers (but alsoskinny models à la Hedi Slimane), embellished leather jackets with sculptural gold motifs, faux fur boleros, and coats as timeless as they are exciting were among the highlights of this successful debut. "Celine stands for quality, timelessness, and style—ideals that are elusive and even harder to define, despite the increasing amount of talk about them."
