Cannes Film Festival 2025: The Stars' Looks Upon Arrival

Cannes Film Festival 2025: We show the looks and people as they arrive and on the red carpet.

Tonight (May 13th) the 78th Cannes Film Festival will officially open. This means that the density of celebrities in the coastal city on the Côte d'Azur is growing practically by the hour. Jury President Juliette Binoche was among the first to arrive, Bella Hadid showed off her new hair color, and Heidi Klum was also spotted with Tom Kaulitz not only at the airport in a strapless denim jumpsuit, but also strolling along the Croisette in an elegant all-black look.

In terms of looks, all eyes are naturally on the red carpet, where several glamorous gowns are expected to be worn today for the opening ceremony. Of note here is the film festival's new dress code, which requires either evening wear (i.e., long dresses or a tuxedo) or a "little black dress," cocktail dresses, a dark pantsuit or an "elegant top with black trousers," elegant shoes with or without heels (but no sneakers), and a black or navy suit with a bow tie or dark tie. Tote bags, backpacks, or large bags are prohibited—as are (warning!) nudity or overly voluminous dresses.

"For reasons of decency, nudity is prohibited on the red carpet, as well as in all other areas of the festival," states the FAQ on the festival website. "Voluminous clothing, especially those with a long train that impedes the smooth flow of guests and makes seating in the theater difficult, is not permitted."

Given the considerable number of naked dresses and sweeping tulle dresses with meter-long trains in recent years, it will be interesting to see whether the well-known followers of this look (such as Bella Hadid ) will be banned from the red carpet or whether there will be a real makeover and we will see more covered looks and trains will be avoided in the coming days.
