A typical feature of autoimmune pancreatitis is a sausage-shaped distension of the pancreas, accompanied by edema. After contrast medium administration, it resembles a capsule, like the skin around a sausage. Segmental narrowing of the pancreatic duct, including multiple narrowing, is also relatively specific.
Autoimmune pancreatitis is a differential diagnosis in cases of painless jaundice. It is rare but can clinically mimic malignancy. It typically responds well to glucocorticoids.
