Those who had cancer as a child are significantly more likely to develop chronic "age-related diseases" as adults. According to a simulation based on the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study (CCSS), the overall risk is almost three times higher, and the onset of the disease is on average 18 years earlier, than in the general population.
